The Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic was designed by Ettore Bugatti's son, Jean Bugatti. Only four Atlantics were produced.
Considered one of the most beautiful designs of pre-war cars as well as one of the most valuable, the Atlantic sports flowing lines and a very distinctive dorsal seam that extends from the front to the back. This design was inspired by the 1935 "Aérolithe" concept car unveiled at the 1935 Paris Motor Show.
Out of the four Atlantics that were produced by Bugatti only two of them survived intact. The first is now part of Ralph Lauren's personal collection and the second was sold in auction in May 2010 for a reported $30 to $40 million to the Mullin Automotive Museum in California. Prior to the 2010 auction, this Atlantic with chassis number 57374 was owned by Victor, Lord of Rothschild until 1941 when it was sold.
