The 10 Fastest Production Cars of All Times

The automotive industry has accelerated humanity into a cruising range, that would have been considered unhealthy, if not fatal or generally unthinkable just about a century ago. But in a battle for superlatives, manufacturers keep pushing the performance of their flagship models to the outer limits of what is physically possible.

Speedjunkies must be pleased with the ever-increasing velocity that production models offer - at least those who can actually afford to drive these cars. Let's take a look who are the reigning champions of landspeed records as of 2012....

10. Pagani Huayra BC

In 2016 Pagani revealed a more powerful version of, the Huayra, the BC. The name derives from an ancient god of winds and correspondingly, the Huayra is expected to cut the air at speeds above 370 km/h. The super car is powered by a Mercedes-Benz AMG 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12 engine. The engine has a power output of 750 HP and produces torque of 1000 Nm.

9. McLaren F1

Everything is super in this car: the top speed, the driving experience and the design. The top speed of the F1 was record breaking for a production car when it was debuted. Reaching 386.7 km/h, the F1 remained until 2009 the fastest production car, only being topped by cars with turbocharged engine. The powerful engine took the Mclaren F1 to the first place at Le Mans when the car was debuted in 1995.

8. Koenigsegg CCR

In 2005 the Koenigsegg CCR hit the 389km/h mark at the Italian Nardo circuit. It features a modified Ford 4.6-litre V8 that produces 806hp

7. Saleen S7

The Saleen S7 is a hand-built, high-performance supercar and seventh on our list of fastest prduction cars. Its twin-turbo engine pushes it to 399 km/h and the V8 power unit delivers 750 hp.

6. Koenigsegg Regera

Koenigsegg's most recent hypercar joins the list in sixth place with a top speed of 399km/h. Its' power comes from a hybrid powertrain containing a twin-turbo, 5.0-litre V8 and three electric motors, which combine to produce more than 1500hp

5. SSC Ultimate Aero

The 2006 Ultimate Aero broke the record for the fastest production car in the world and with a recorded speed of 412.28 km/h remained so until it was beaten by the Veyron in 2010. The engine used in the supercar is a V8 6.3-litre engine with an output of 1061 hp and 1113 Nm of torque.

4. Bugatti Chiron

With a limited top speed of 420km/h, the new Bugatti Chiron joins the fastest production car list in fourth place. But keep an eye on it because top speed is limited, so it can go even faster in future versions

3. Hennessey Venom GT

The Hennessey Venom GT was introduced in 2010 and is based on a Lotus Elise. Production is limited to 5 units. Powered by a supercharged 6.2l V8 engine, it has a power output of 725hp. In 2013 the car reached a tested maximum speed of 427.7 km/h making it the fastest production car in the world.

2. Bugatti Veyron Super Sport

The Super Sport Veyron was the result of customer requests and is with 431.072 km/h the world's fastest street-legal car to date. The engineers at Bugatti came up with a car delivering a power output of 1,200-hp (882 kW) and maximum torque of 1500 Nm

1. Koenigsegg Agera RS

Koenigsegg Agera RS is from November 2017 the new leader of this list. The Swedish supercar broke the speed record for a production car after recording a two-way average speed of 447km/h
