The cars will be built in very small numbers using remaining parts leftover from when production shutdown. The reopened Trollhattan factory will employ 600 people, compared to 3,500 people when the company declared bankruptcy. Production of the electric version of the 9-3 will begin in China in 2014.

NEVS is owned by a consortium of investors from China and Japan, including the Chinese city of Qingdao. NEVS claims that it has agreements with 400 suppliers for the 9-3.
