More VW Up News: 5-Door Seat Mii and E-Up Possibly on Sale within a Year

Rumormill: VW E-Up to Be on Sale Within a Year

Volkswagen has released details on even more variations of its Up platform. It has announced the five-door version of the Seat Mii, and rumors are spreading that the electric e-Up could be on sale within a year.

The five-door Mii is basically identical to the 5-door Up and 5-door Citigo. Other than the different Seat nose, it is basically the same car. Like the other cars, the Mii comes in a cleaner variation, in this case it is called Ecomotive that reduces emissions to 96g/km of CO2 and 4.1l/100km of fuel economy for the 60ps model or 98g/km of CO2 and 4.2l/100km for the 75ps model. The 5-door Mii has 251l of cargo space or 951 with the seats down. Like the other Up derivatives, it has City Brake Assist as an option that slows the car to stop automatically if it detects a collision at less than 30km/h.

‘The new Mii has enjoyed a terrific start.  Customer response in Spain is outstanding and we are now bringing the entire line-up to the other European markets – complete with the three-door, five-door and Ecomotive versions," said James Muir, President of SEAT, S.A.

The rumor mill is also spinning up about the future for the electric e-Up. Volkswagen has claimed at 90 mile range and 80mph top speed for the little car. The e-Up uses an 80hp electric motor with 148lb-ft of torque. It accelerates to 60mph in about 14 seconds. The engineering on the car is complete, and it just needs to complete safety testing. The car could be available in the UK and Germany by next year.
