. The next-generation technology will be incorporated into the car's navigation system to know the road ahead and adapt the drivetrain to it.

The new technology is slated to debut in 2016 or 2017, and Porsche claims that it can dramatically reduce fuel economy at any speed because the car can predict what is ahead. The Panamera's stop/start and coasting system is the first step in this evolution. The next step will be knowing upcoming road inclines and the radius of corners. The cars will be able to select the applicable driving mode for the road ahead.

The next generation Volkswagen Group MSB platform for rear-wheel drive cars will also get a next generation hybrid system that will include a more powerful electric motor, likely in excess of 100hp, and more energy-dense batteries. Weight is expected to stay roughly the same.
