Fiat Freemont Offers Full-Size SUV for Europe

Fiat Freemont Offers Full-Size SUV for Europe

The Freemont is the first vehicle to come from Fiat's partnership with Chrysler. It is a full-size, three row SUV that seats seven with between 140hp and 280hp depending the engine choice. It comes with either front-wheel or all-wheel drive.

The Freemont comes with a variety of engines. The front-wheel drive version gets two versions of the 2.0 Multijet diesel engine with either 140hp or 170hp. The all-wheel drive version gets either the 170hp Multijet engine or a 3.6 liter, petrol engine with 280hp. This engine is actually the new Chrysler Pentastar engine that is used in many of the current Jeeps and some other Chrysler vehicles. The US automotive media have given the engine mostly positive reviews.

Although the car is very much a Chrysler underneath, Fiat has worked on the suspension to make it more palatable for European roads. This includes more direct steering, a stiffened suspension and more sound insulation.

The Freemont also has the whole host of contemporary safety equipment that includes ABS, traction control, rollover mitigation. It also has a system that makes towing a trailer more safe. Trailer Sway Control detects if the trailer that the driver is hauling is out of control and applies the correct amount of brakes to bring it under control.

The Freemont is a big vehicle. It is 4.89m long, 1.88m wide and 1.69m tall. Its big size means that it can carry 1461 liters, plus it has over 20 storage compartments inside. For entertainment, it has Bluetooth, a USB port, an AUX-in port and 12 volt power socket. Depending on options, the car gets either a 4.3” or 8.4” touchscreen.

The truck will be available for sale in Europe in October.
