The Asterion LPI 910-4 is a prototype debuted at the 2014 Paris Motor Show powered by a plug-in hybrid powertrain designed to meet the Italian brand's goals.

The name Asterion LPI 910-4 stands for "longitudinale posteriore" referring to the position of the conventional engine, "I" stands for "ibrido", 910 refers to the system's power output and 4 to the permanent four-wheel drive system.

The Asterion's main goal is to reduce CO2 emissions through existing technologies, ensuring that the driver still gets the driving experience expected from a Lambo, smooth and responsive. It also offers a pure electric driving range of 50km.

Developed entirely by Lamborghini, the Asterion has a design and technology basis offered across all Lamborghini's range and adds innovative hybrid technology.

Asterion's hybrid architecture is based on an electric engine that incorporates an integrated engine starter and generator (ISG), which is placed between the V10 engine and a dual-clutch transmission and two electric engines on the front axle fed by the ISG power with torque vectoring function.

This system endows the Asterion with two different driving modes: in hybrid mode it combines the V10 engine with three electric engines ensuring permanent four-wheel drive without the need to rely on the state of the battery charge. In purely electric mode it uses only the two electric engines on the front.

The V10 5.2l naturally aspirated engine provides a maximum power of 610hp with 560 Nm of maximum torque available. Combined with three electric engines that provide an extra 300hp, full hybrid power output reaches 910hp. The combination of the two propulsion systems guarantees an acceleration from 0 to 100km/h in 3.0 seconds.

With a maximum hybrid/combined speed of 320km/h, the Asterion LPI 910-4 is also able to reach up to 125km/h in purely electric power only.
