The fact that it is built on the PSA Peugeot-Citroen platform EMP2 is another point in favor of the production intent. It is on this platform that mid and large size models of the two French brands. In terms of dimensions the Aircross is similar to the Land Rover Discovery Sport, except the width that is generally exaggerated in concepts. The vehicle is 4,58m long, 2.1m wide and 1.8m tall.

, Citroën seems to have regained its irreverent image with the launch of the C4 Cactus, whose success came to leverage a new range of models inspired by this model. The Aircross will be the basis for the construction of this new range which may include a model to compete with the Mini Countryman and even a seven-seat model. The new design should be expanded on the Citroën range over the next five years.

Although it can raise contradictory reactions, Linda Jackson, Citroën boss, believes it is better for Citroën models to be immediately recognizable and to provoke consumers to love or hate them. In fact, Jackson believes that this is better than to always be the third option for everyone because it implies having to resort to discounts to attract customers.

The Aircross is equipped with a plug-in hybrid system consisting of an electric motor of 95hp and 200Nm of torque placed on the rear axle and a front petrol engine 1.6-liter with 218hp and 275Nm. The electric motor offers a range of 50km, however the system can also switch between the electric and petrol engines on journeys that require regular acceleration and deceleration. On the highway only the petrol engine is used.

In total the Aircross features a combined output of 313hp that is used in situations of strong acceleration. The vehicle can reach 100km/h in 4.5 seconds. Citroën announces an average consumption of 1.7l/100km and CO2 emissions of 39g/km.
