What is CO 2 Extraction?

The careddi Supercritical Extraction System uses carbon dioxide (CO2 ) as a solvent to extract oil from plant plant material because it produces a safer, cleaner and purer oil.CO 2 has long been known for its versatility and efficiency and is commonly used for many types of commercial processing, such as dry cleaning, to remove dirt without affecting clothing. CO 2 extraction from plant materials works in much the same way. As the oil passes through the plant, the CO 2 removes it, leaving it intact. It is important to note that the plant material looks the same after extraction as before, except that it no longer contains oil.


With CO 2 extraction, there are no residual components in the extracted material. Other extraction solvents, such as hydrocarbon-based propellants such as propane and butane, hexane and pentane, or ethanol/alcohol mixtures, require additional distillation or purification after extraction to separate the solvent from the extracted oil. How do customers use CO2 extraction to extract oil from plants?

Using high pressure, CO 2 is pumped into the first vessel containing the plant material (extraction vessel). This process converts the CO 2 to a liquid and then extracts the oil through the plant material. The liquid (CO 2 + plant extract) is then pumped into a second vessel (separator vessel), during which the CO 2 is converted back into a gas and separated from the oil. The denser, heavier oil falls to the bottom of the separator vessel and enters the collection cup. the CO 2 continues to circulate, circulating around the system and through the plant material several times before extraction is complete. The CO 2 is then redirected back into the storage tank. Approximately 90% of the CO 2 is recovered in the closed loop CO 2 extractor .
