to the test day for the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb on June 7 and set a new record for a production SUV up the 12.42-mile course. The Range Rover Sport managed the route in 12:35.61, an average 59.17mph (95.23km/h), and was driven by Pikes Peak veteran Paul Dallenbach. The run was timed and sanctioned by the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.
The truck had the 503hp 5.0-liter supercharged V8, and it was completely stock except for a roll cage and racing harness.
"I was able to place the car exactly where I wanted it on the road to keep to the optimum high-speed lines through corners. This is a hugely capable vehicle and I'm proud to have been part of demonstrating that by setting a new Pikes Peak record," said Dallenbach.
Dallenbach has scored six class victories and three overall victories in the Pikes Peak Hill Climb.
The course covers 156 corners and starts from 9,390ft (2,860m) above sea level to 14,110ft (4,300m) at its peak. Competition for the event starts on June 30.
