, as Rosberg finished second. However the German is under investigation for a possible violation of radio communication rules. This was the third consecutive victory for Hamilton at Silverstone. Max Verstappen for Red BullRed BullRed BullAustria, 2004 > present12 models

finished third.
Due to the heavy rain that had fallen in Silverstone before the race, the start behind the safety car was required. The first six laps were made at a slow pace until the competition was able to begin. As soon as the safety car came into the pits there were several drivers coming to the pits to change to intermediate tires, starting with Kimi Raikkonen which was following in fifth place. At the front Hamilton, Rosberg and Verstappen chose to stay with the rain tires. The latter came to be confirmed as the best strategy as soon as the virtual safety car was introduced after a trip to the gravel by Pascal Wehrlein from ManorManor RacingManor RacingUnited Kingdom, 2008 > present1 model
and the front riders were able to pit and still come out with a comfortable lead.
Verstappen showed a stronger pace than Rosberg and this became even more notorious as the track was getting drier. The Dutch eventually overtook the German and climbed to second place. However with tire wear and an increasingly dry track Rosberg returned to excel the Red Bull driver and regained second place and went on to chase his teammate. The German managed to close the gap to Hamilton to just 6 seconds.
