about this car

Volkswagen will show the production version of the XL1 at the Geneva Motor Show that it says will have 0.9l/100km (261mpg US or 314mpg UK) combined fuel economy and 21g/km of CO2 emissions.

The XL1 is the inverse of the Bugatti Veyron. Where the Veyron went for absolute speed, the XL1 attempts at absolute economy. Each car will be handmade at VW’s factory in Osnabrück, Germany.

The XL1 seats two people side-by-side in a vehicle that is 3.888m long, 1.665m wide and 1.153m tall, which is dimensionally similar to a Polo, but the XL1 is lower.

The XL1 also is the new titleholder as the most aerodynamic car ever made with a drag coefficient of 0.189. The excellent aerodynamics plus a low weight of 795kg (1753lbs) and low center of gravity of 1,153mm (45.4in) aid in the car’s astounding fuel economy. VW claims that the XL1 needs just 8.29 horsepower to maintain a constant speed of 100km/h or just 0.1kWh to cruise 1km (...
