The Volkswagen Jetta is a small family car, produced since 1979. It fills the sedan segment above the VW Golf hatchback and has been sold over five generations. The Jetta was initially designed by adding a normal trunk to the Golf hatchback and was available in two- and four-door saloon and five-door estate versions. Until 2005 more than 6.6 million Jettas had been sold worldwide.

The sixth-generation Jetta was launched in the North American market in 2010. The new model is more competitive against its rivals, namely the Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic, in terms of price and performance. The model is partly based on the Golf PQ35 platform. The Jetta GLI, a sedan version of the Golf GTI, was presented at the 2011 Chicago Auto Show. In Europe, the Jetta is available with an engine range including the 1.2 TSI, 1.4 TSI (122 or 160 PS), 2.0 TSI, 1.6 TDI and 2.0 TDI engines.
