that it is easy to lose track, but the latest rumor indicates that the car is back on the slate and could be on sale by late 2014. Production of the electric R8 will be in very limited numbers.

The R8 e-tron will be slightly improved with more power-dense lithium-ion batteries that will double range to 400km (248.5 miles). The car would have an electric motor mounted in each rear wheel. The prototype produced 376hp and 605lb-ft of torque. Road tests of the prototypes put its 0-100km/h time at around 4.2 seconds

The e-tron will be based on the upcoming second generation R8 that will use an aluminum space frame with a carbon fiber body. The lighter chassis also contributes to the improved performance.

Audi has built a dedicated factory for the next generation R8 in Neckarsulm where it will be made from start to finish. It may make it easier for Audi to develop limited production versions of the R8 in the new generations.
