Facelift 2013

Skoda introduced a facelifted Superb at the Shanghai Motor Show on April 19th during Volkswagen Group Night. The larger Superb is aimed squarely at China where Skoda sales are growing quickly.

It offers better fuel economy and more rear legroom. At the same event, it introduces the Superb Combi wagon.

The new styling does not take any chances. It is essentially a stretched and widened version of the new Octavia in terms of looks. It is offered with bi-xenon headlights with LED running lights. The rear has three LED stripes that create the shape of the taillights.

The facelifted Superb is available in two, new colors: Metal Grey and Moon White.

The interior is where much of the work has gone. There are nine fabric options. The center console includes a large storage pocket. It gets new features like a 6.5in touch screen infotainment system with a 30GB hard drive. Rear cargo space has been increased to 595 liters in the sedan and 633 liters in the Combi.

The engine range includes start/stop and regenerative braking technology. The base engine is a 123hp 1.4 TSI, and there will be a 2.0 TDI with 138hp or 168hp.

There is an all-wheel drive version with the 168hp diesel and either a six-speed dual clutch transmission or six-speed manual.

The 2013 Superb and Combi go on sale in June 2013.

The origin of Skoda Auto goes back to 1895. Václav Laurin, a mechanic, and Václav Klement, book-seller, both shared a passion for bicycles. When Klement tried to get spare parts to fix is bicycle and wrote to the manufacturer in Czech, he got an unfawl reply asking him to write in a language they could understand. In that moment, the two Czechs founded Laurin & Klement and started to produce bicycles under the patriotic name: Slavia.
