UK PM David Cameron Opens New McLaren Production Center

Prime Minister of the UK David Cameron was on hand at the McLaren factory for the opening of its new production facility.

While opening the facility McLaren said that it aim to be, "a homegrown sports car manufacturer to take on the likes of Europe's and North America's giants.

Head of McLaren Ron Dennis got a little political when he gave his speech for the opening, "But, in the UK, there has been an over-reliance on the financial and service sectors. Now, industry is realizing that Britain's grand manufacturing tradition is a solid platform on which to build -- and I want McLaren Group to play its part in the crucial recalibration of UK plc."

McLaren is currently in a state of major growth. It will be rolling out 35 dealerships world wide through 2012 and preparing its customer GT3 race car program for the first full season. McLaren also says that it is working on other cars that will boost its total output to 4,500 cars per year by 2014. It is also working on a carbon fiber bicycle for Specialized and marine competition teams.
