will be the series official technical partner.

“We believe that motorsport is an efficient manner to promote the efficiency of new technologies, and we’re eager to use that single-seater in FIA Formula E championship to show our technology is the best," said Philippe Klein, head of product planning at Renault.

Part of the deal with Renault is that Renault will have prominant branding on the car, and the car's will be badged as Spark-Renault.

is supplying the electric motors. The series is building 42 cars for the first season - two cars for each driver, plus two extra cars. For the first season, all of the cars will be from Spark Racing Technology, but teams will be able to submit their own designs in the future. Each driver has two cars because the batteries are not powerful enough to power the car for the entire race. Drivers will have to switch cars mid-race.

The series has announced an eight-race calendar for next year and still hope to add two more. It will hold races in Los Angeles, Miami, Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, London, Rome, Beijing and Putrajaya in Malaysia.

Formula E created a video promoting the announcement of the Los Angeles race. The video still shows the previous car, not the just-announced one.
