Renault is back to Formula 1 with an official team, after leaving the sport in 2009. The team regained control of the
Lotus Team and unveiled the
RS16 as the first car.
Renault's official team heads for this season calmly and without major competitive goals. Team officials hope the new Renault project in Formula 1 will become competitive within two to three years, which will allow the team to consistently compete for podium places.
Behind the wheel of the RS16 will be the "rookie" Jolyon Palmer, son of former Formula 1 driver Jonathan Palmer, and Danish driver Kevin Magnussen which replaced Pastor Maldonado at the last minute.
The car presented at the Barcelona test still does not have the livery that will be used in the first race of the season in Melbourne.
