Mercedes Will Start from the First Row in the Monaco GP Tomorrow

Nico Rosberg led a variable wet and dry qualifying session

Rosberg had led every practice session before taking qualifying as well

Nico Rosberg has been a phenomenon this during this year's Grand Prix of Monaco. Before qualifying, he had led every practice session, and he kept up the streak during qualifying to start from pole for the race. His teammate Lewis Hamilton will start beside him tomorrow. The only way to describe the beginning of Monaco qualifying is weird. Just as the cars went out it began to rain slightly, and it pulled the oil out of the track to make things very slippery. Over the course of the session, it went from damp to dry to wet.

Felipe Massa and Romain Grosjean crashed separately in the pre-qualifying practice session. The cars were still being repaired as qualifying started.

Jules Bianchi had an engine failure in the opening seconds of qualifying. He was not even able to complete a lap.

Grosjean finally went out with four minutes to go. On his first quick lap, he set fastest time. He has always shown himself to be a great qualifier, but that is just impressive

Massa was not able to get the car repaired in time. He also did not set a time.

Bianchi starts ahead of Massa because Bianchi was able to actually make it on track, while Massa was not.

As Q2 began, rain was still sprinkling down. All drivers were on intermediates. It got wetter later in the session, but in the track dried out in the last few minutes. It meant that the last men on track were fastest. It started with Webber setting a fast lap and afterwards nearly every driver in the field set a fast lap.

The rain left in Q3, and the track dried every lap. A new driver was top every lap as the line got better. Hamilton, Webber and Vettel all held the top time at various moments in the session. In the final moments Rosberg came around to take pole. His teammate, Lewis Hamilton will start next to him.
