President Mark Reuss said that a hybrid Corvette is a possibility for the future, espcially as a limited edition experiment.

"Actually, don’t laugh. I think it’s a very attractive idea, actually. I think it would be really fun to do, I think it would build capability inside our company and I think people would love it," said Reuss.

Chevrolet has treated the Corvette as a testbed in the past to the point that it has worked on mid-engine and rotary-powered versions. These cars were never sold to the public, but show the car's experimentation.

Also, the latest 6.2-liter V8 in the Corvette has direct injection and cylinder deactivation to save fuel. A hybrid would take that even farther and add power.

In the last few years GM has made a commitment to offering cleaner models in the US. First it introduced the Chevy VoltVoltChevrolet VoltUnited States of America, 2011 > present3 photos

that borrows much of the Volt's technology but wrapped in a prettier package.

"It’s exciting stuff, I mean it is. It’s cool," said Reuss.
