worldwide. The yarn is made from recycled plastics and account for 1.5 million yards of fabric a year, about half of which is used in Fusions in the North America.

Ford uses recycled yarns in 15 of its cars, and it introduced the recycled yarns in 2008 in the Escape HybridEscape Hybrid 4WDFord Escape Hybrid 4WDUnited States of America, 2011 > present1 photo
. Sixty-six percent of the fabric Ford uses in North America is made from recycled yarn to create 41 fabrics. The company's goal is to have 100% of its fabrics come from renewable materials in the future, and that is already the case on the Focus ElectricFocus ElectricFord Focus ElectricUnited States of America, 2012 > present3 photos
and Fusion Hybrid SE.

One of the downsides of creating seats from recycled materials is finding the materials to recycle. Ford has begun collecting clear plastic bottles and sending them back to its yarn supplier. Its waster fabric is also sent back to the supplier. It takes about 40 bottles to create the interior for each Fusion.

The other problem is sourcing the material globally. While the interior of the Fusion Hybrid is 100% recycled in North America, in Asia it is only 43% recycled because of problems finding suppliers.

“We are off to a good start. But it’s only the beginning of our corporate vision,” said Carol Kordich, Ford lead designer of sustainable materials.

The Fusion is already on sale in North America and in Asia as the Mondeo Ambiente. It will launch in Europe later as the MondeoMondeo 5Ford Mondeo 5United Kingdom, 2013 > present105 versions
