Ford Auctions 2013 Shelby 500 Prototype for Charity

Ford is auctioning off the Shelby GT500 prototype that underwent 24 hour durability testing. The proceeds from the auction at Barrett-Jackson will go to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

The car was originally built in 2007 as one of the very first cars that used the 2010 Mustang body. It was then re-speced as the 2013 Mustang to test the durability of the new Shelby GT500. The car has a full roll cage, six-point harnesses and Recaro seats. All of the members of Ford's SVT team signed the underside of the trunk.

Ford has raised over $3 million in charity by selling vehicles at the Barrett-Jackson auction.

The production Shelby GT500 uses a supercharged, 5.8 liter V8 with 650hp and 600lb-ft of torque. It also has a carbon fiber driveshaft and nearly every part has been beefed up to withstand the extra power.

650HP in a Mustang, lots of fun ahead. And speak about exclusivity with this one... I just hope that it is road legal for the future owner.

I sure hope it comes with the camoflauge. I'd love to drive that around.
