Ford and Porsche Dominate 24 Hours of Daytona

Ford and Porsche Dominate 24 Hours of Daytona

Ford and Porsche put in fantastic performances at the 24 Hours of Daytona over the weekend. Both companies had their cars in the top three positions in their respective classes. The new Audi R8 Grand Am was far less successful having both cars prove unreliable.

Ford-powered Riley chassis took the top three positions in the Daytona Prototype class. The winning team overall was Michael Shank Racing with John Pew, Oswaldo Negri Jr, AJ Allmendinger and Justin Wilson as drivers. It is the first time the team has won the race in nine years of competition.

The new Corvette Daytona Prototype was not quite so successful. It managed to finish in places, 5, 8, 9, 33 and 58.

In the GT class, Porsche was also quite successful. It took the first three places in its class. Magnus Racing with the driverJohn Potter, Andy Lally, Richard Lietz and Rene Rast. It was also the first time that the team won its class in the 24 Hours of Daytona.

The new Audi R8 Grand Am cars both had problems. The APR Motorsports cars had to have its clutch replaced two hours in. It also had a power steering pump failure that was possibly due to a collision with another car. The Oryx Racing car also suffered clutch failure.

I find the logo on the Magnus Porsche (2nd pic) to be quite close to a reversed version of the AMG logo...
