Fiat Production Will Continue to be Slow for Rest of Year

It is possible that Fiat will ask the automotive union to extend layoffs at the end of September because of low demand. At two of its factories Fiat is closing factories two days a month to reduce production. 

Fiat still plans to delay the introduction of the next generation Punto because the compact car market has contracted so much. It has already been delayed until 2014 and could be further delayed until 2015.

Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne will address workers on October 30 with a final decision on the company's near future.
