Alonso offers Ferrari win in homesoil

Fernando Alonso took his third win of the season in Monza as he handed Ferrari a triumph in Italian soil. Button was ahead for the most part of the race but just lost the lead after the pitstop. He ended in second place with Felipe Massa completing the podium.

Button took the lead at the start of the race with Alonso not being able to benefit from starting in pole position. In the first lap the Brit was leading ahead of the two Ferrari's, with Hamilton just behind.

In a childish mistake, in a small touch in Massa's Ferrari, Hamilton broke his F1's direction, going out right on the first lap, loosing his lead at the championship standings.

With Hamilton out in the first lap Webber had a real chance to return to the lead of the World Championship Standings, which he did after securing 6th place. The Aussie struggled at the start of the race moving down to 8th place. After overtaking Vettel, complaining of engine problems, he took a long time to overtake Williams' Hulkenberg, not having a chance to attack Nico Rosberg.

Although his complaints with the engine, Sebastian Vettel was the biggest highlight in Monza. The German driver was lying behind Rosberg, Hulkenberg, Webber and Kubica, but thanks to his pitstop strategy he managed to climb up to 4th position on the last lap. Vettel only made his pitstop on lap 52, benefitting from the good pace of his soft tyres. This was a perfect decision has he recovered from eighth to fourth, a great strategical move.

Rosberg had a calm race, always with a clear margin for the driver ahead of him and the one behind him. He only lost fourth position thanks to the brilliant Vettel strategy. At the end of the race the following pack was lead by Webber, Hulkenberg and Kubica. The top ten was completed by Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello.

In the Drivers' Standings Mark Webber is once again in the lead with a five-point lead over Lewis Hamilton. Alonso is lying third with 166 points, just one ahead of Jenson Button and three of Sebastian Vettel. The five drivers are only splitted by 24 points, which keeps the fight for the title very much alive.

As for the Constructors' Championship Red Bull is leading with a three-point advantage over McLaren Mercedes. Although Ferrari was the biggest winner in Monza, the team is still 60 points away from the leaders in third place.
