The name that was given to this Lotus model derives from Romano Artioli’s granddaughter Elisa, as Artioli was the company’s chairman by that time. The brand’s main goal when this car was thought of was to maintain weight and production costs as low as possible, by manufacturing a pure sports car that’s free of accessories and has a rather modest engine.
The Elise is also known for its hand-finished fiberglass body skin and quite stiff suspension and is able to achieve 150 mi/h (240 km/h). Over 17.000 copies of the Elise have been built since 1996 until today.
