by Henry Ford in 1903. Not even a year later, model T’s were being exported to the United Kingdom. The sales success led to the creation of the Ford Motor Company Limited, with its headquarters in London, in 1909, along with an assembly plant that opened in Manchester in 1911. Up to the beginning of the 1930s, Ford’s policy was produce cars that were sold worldwide. However, with the great depression, Model A’s were highly taxed and to expensive to buy. By this time, Ford Britain changed its name to Ford Motor Co. Ltd. Along with this change, Henry Ford decided it was time to build a model specifically designed for the markets outside north-America. The Model Y released in 1933 was the first Ford model to be built with the European market in mind.

In 1964, the British and German divisions were merged to create Ford Europe.
