Launched in 1975, the BMW 3 Series is a compact executive car manufactured by the German automaker BMW. The model is the successor of the BMW New Class and has had five different generations and the same number of bodystyles; it was built in sedan, convertible, estate, 5-door hatchback and coupé variants.

The BMW 3 Series was launched just after the 1973 oil crisis and managed to attract customers seeking both prestige and economy. Thanks to it BMW nearly doubled its worldwide auto sales figures in three years and received several automotive world awards and honors.

Three decades later, the 3 Series is still the best-selling car in its class.
